Rock Movement #23

I did live through a brief glorious period where I had access to a rehearsal space set up to record straight to an 8-track-to-cassette analog machine, and psychedelic drugs at the same time. One night I set out to document Never Again for the first time with words, and with a gel cap.

I wish I still had the cassette to prove it, but that version sounded better than anything I’ve been able to come up with since. I was so excited I had to drive at least a couples of miles to my buddies’ place to share. When I got there I found a pair of guys getting ready to move out and burn all of their stuff because the place was so infested with roaches. Zzzt Zzzt they zipped across the floor or wall every few seconds. If you’ve never seen this on acid before you’re in for a treat.

I could handle only so much of this before driving a car was less stressful than my fear of bugs. I got myself back to the rehearsal spot, hit record, and sat behind the drums and shook cockroaches out of my spirit for about eight minutes. I rewound the tape and recorded a couple of takes of bass and heard a song start to develop. I recorded a couple of guitar parts and a vocal through the guitar pedal, and ended up with this. And there it lay.

For eight songs recorded straight to analog and mixed in a few hours, I think we did pretty well. In those days

So I have a new release featuring two heartfelt love ballads. The first track, "Never Again," is a song I wrote in the 90s

So I found out Covid was "real" as I was in the office at my new job getting ready for a weekend of Frozen Dead Guy Days in 2020.

In the six days between the first two Covid shows, I decided the shows should have themes, I sure can't play the same songs every week right?

For the third episode, I stepped the sound up with a mixer so I have a stage mic and my guitar on separate channels

That's right I opened the show streaming to the wrong page, the Tastes Like Chicken page. So nobody saw it as it happened, but there it is.

The first time I opened with a Pink Floyd reference. I’m starting to kind of feel like there are regulars for these.
